AS IF: Echoes from London

7th November, 5-6pm
West Space - Level 1/225 Bourke Street, Melbourne

The third AS IF Echoes event is held at West Space and features a performance by London based artist Holly Ingleton, developed from its original staging at Wysing Arts Centre in Cambridge. This event is curated and facilitated by Laura Castagnini and concludes the AS IF festival.

For AS IF: Echoes from London, Holly Ingleton will present a new performance made in response to a box of Women’s Art Register ephemera that made its way to the archives of the Women's Art Library (WAL) at Goldsmiths College in London. In dialogue with Laura Castagnini, Holly Ingleton has been considering the metaphor and implication of the geographical relocation of materials from Australia to London, and how this might intersect with broader ideas of immigration, race, cultural cringe, colonial hangovers and forgotten histories. Holly's work examines social relations and processes as the medium, explored through sound and listening, such as in soundscape composition and field recording and through performative events that aim to materialise alternative modes of communication through participation. This second approach, more research-as-practice, is further reflected in projects like 'Her Noise: Feminisms and the Sonic' and 'Sound:Gender:Feminism:Activism' (SGFA).

"our word is our bond" is a performance score collaboratively written by Ain Bailey, Johnny Pavlatos and Holly Ingleton derived from the "EEA:(PR) Application for a document certifying permanent residence or permanent residence card under the EEA (European Economic Area) Regulations 2006 (‘the EEA Regulations’) Version 07/2015". "our word is our bond" was developed in conjunction with the Electra residency at the Wysing Arts Centre in Cambridge, UK.
